Start up Outlook Express.
Click Tools.

Under Tools,
click Accounts

In Accounts window,
Click the Mail tab.

Click the Add button,
select Mail.

The wizard starts.
Enter your name.
Click Next button.

Enter your Email address.
For example: username@spsp.net
Click Next.

For the Account Type, select POP3 (if you'll primarily look at mail using one computer). IMAP is also an option. Click POP3 or IMAP above for an explanation.
Enter your incoming mail host name. This will be mail.spsp.net (for our dialup and Zoomtown customers) but webhosting customers have their own domain.
(Some organizations that have SpeedSpan Spanmail accounts for their domain have host names that start with "mailhost" but most start with "mail" so check the information you got when your account was established.)
The same name will go in the SMTP server name. (More important steps below about outgoing settings.)

Enter your account name.
Your account name is your full email address, e.g., "jsmith@spsp.net".
Enter your password. Click "Remember Password."
Do not click the box for Secure Password Authentication.

Congratulations.
You're not actually done! (but click Finish.)

Select the email account you've just created by clicking on it once. Then click the Properties button.

Hey! This isn't all filled in!

Put your email address into the Reply Address line (so persons receiving your email can click Reply to reply and it will work).
In addition, you may want to add an organization, if you work in or belong to one.
Finally, if you will be setting up more than one account, you may want to make the mail account name (top line) more descriptive.
(Note: only you see the mail account name on the top line, while the information on the next four lines is transmitted with your emails.
You will almost always want to click the checkbox to "Include this account when ..."
Click OK.

We need to do one more thing to get your outgoing email flowing freely.
Click the Servers tab. At the bottom, click “My Server Requires Authentication.”
Then click the “Settings” button.

The next screen should look like this.
Click “OK”

Click the “Advanced” tab.
Change the Outgoing port to 587.
All should look like this. (Unless you set up for IMAP on incoming, then the incoming port would be 143 instead of 110.) Nothing is checked.
Click OK and close the Properties window.
Now you're done. On the main Outlook Express screen, click the "Send/Recv" Mail icon. Or, go to the Tools menu and select
"Send and Receive" and "Send and Receive All (Ctrl-M)."
