e-mail FAQ

How do I create and manage my email accounts (mailboxes) ?

1.

SpeedSpan customers have almost complete control over their email accounts.

2.

Webhosting customers (customers having their own domain name) should click "Home" above to return to the SpeedSpan home page, and then login at the bottom left.
Click here for movie. Movie Icon

Individuals should enter their full email address in the top line and password in the second line and click the "Admin" button to administer their own account. Most of the things you can do here you can do within webmail, i.e., click the "Login" button instead of the "Admin" button.
If you are the administrator for the whole domain, enter the email address "mailadmin@yourdomain.com" (substitute your domain name) and the account password you got when the account was established (same as you use for webalizer, etc.). On the next screen, click the "Users" button on the left. You can then click the "Search Accounts" button to see a list of all users for the domain. Initially, the only user will be "mailadmin" and another user corresponding to your unix account name. These are default accounts, and you would not ordinarily change the passwords, but you might add/change an address to forward email to. If there are other users, you can click a name to change the password, set autoforwarding, etc. To add a mailbox name for the domain, click the "Users" button on the left again. Now enter a mailbox name (e.g., "jerry@yourdomain.com" into the "Username" blank, and a password below it. The rest of the blanks stay blank. Click the "Create Account" button on the right to create the account. Note that the password must be remembered; it is never shown to you on the screen.

This new mail system has numerous options. A popular option for an individual user is to forward the mail that comes to that mailbox to another email address for pickup. If you chosse to do this, presumably you are only retrieving messages from the other mailbox, so be sure to check the checkbox that says "Delete Original Message" so email does not accumulate in this mailbox. You should probably also select the option to forward email after spam filtering. And when forwarding, you should probably click the "Spam" button and choose (a recommendation): Never hold, Never Bounce, and vanish at +10, Definitely spam.

3.

Dialup and ZoomTown customers Click the words "Account Review" near the top right of the screen. Then click "dialup & ZoomTown" on the left side of the screen if you are our dialup or ZoomTown customer or "webhosting accounts" if we are hosting your website.

The next screen has a place to enter your account name and password. For dialup and ZoomTown customers, enter your primary account name (same as your default mailbox name) without adding "@spsp.net", and the password for that account. For web customers, enter your domain name and account password. Click the "MailBoxes" button.

The next page lists your email mailboxes, one per line. You can change your passwords for your accounts if you wish. You can elect to autoforward your mail to another email address. You can add email addresses into the last 5 (empty) lines on that page.

You can learn a lot more about how this works by clicking the "Click for Help" link. near the top of the page. It opens a new window so you can still see the mailbox listing on the starting screen. Also read about spam filtering, a great feature of SpeedSpan email (SpanMail).
