Reconfigure Outlook Express to use Password Authentication for Outgoing Mail.
Start up Outlook Express.
Click Tools.
Outlook Express startup screen
Under Tools,
click Accounts
Outlook Express startup screen
In Accounts window,
Click the Mail tab. The large white area should show your accounts.

(If it shows old accounts you don't want, highlight them and click the "Remove" button.)

Click on the mail account you want to update to highlight it, then click the "Propertiess" button on the right.
Outlook Express accounts screen
First, you will see the General Properties. It should look something like this.

The top item (J Smith spsp mail) is only seen by you. It's not very important unless you have lots of email addresses.

The 4 items under "User information" are sent with each email you send. (You can fill in the Orgaization if you want.)

The email address and reply address should both be filled in. They're ordinarily the same, with, obviously, your email address instead of Jerry's.
Outlook Express Email Acct General Properties
Click the "Advanced" Tab.

Enter "587" into the Port Number for Outgoing mail.

Your "Incoming mail port " may be 143 (for IMAP) or 110 (for POP3). Leave this for now.

Note that the checkboxes for SSL are not checked.

Outlook Express Servers Properties dialog box
Click the "Servers" tab.

Your incoming server may be POP3 or IMAP. Leave it, that's not the subject here. Your incoming and your SMTP (outgoing) server names should be set already. (See other Email FAQs.)

Your "Account name" should be your full email address.

Click the checkbox for "My server requires authentication."
Outlook Express Servers Properties dialog box
Click the "Settings" button.

Click "Use the same settings as incoming mail Server."

Click OK.

After you've saved these settings, we recommned you close Outlook Express, then restart it.
