dialup FAQ

How do I connect using Windows 95/98/NT?

1. DoubleClick on the "My Computer" icon.
2. DoubleClick on "Dial Up Networking". (Will look similar to the first picture below if View for the folder is set to Details.)
3a. Option a: Double click Make a New Connection and enter SpeedSpan for the connection name and put in the SpeedSpan number 859.547.1415. (Do not dial 1 first if in Cincinnati Bell area.) The other fields that are filled in can be accepted. After you click Finish, right click the new icon and select Properties. Continue with # 4.
3b. Option b: Right click the name of a Connection you no longer use to call to the Internet and select Rename and enter SpeedSpan. Click OK. (Note: Do this on the original connection [inside the Dial-Up Networking folder], not on a shortcut. Throw shortcuts away and make new shortcuts to your connection after you get it working.) Then right click the SpeedSpan connection and select properties. Click the General tab and enter the SpeedSpan number, 859.547.1415. (Do not dial 1 first if in Cincinnati Bell area.) Continue with # 4.
4. Click on the tab "Server" or "Server Settings" and confirm that the settings are like the below picture.
5. Click on the button "TCP/IP Settings" and confirm that the buttons "Server assigned IP address" and "Server assigned name server addresses" are selected.
6. Click "OK" to close TCP/IP Settings. Click "OK" to close Properties. Close Dial-up Networking. Close My Computer.
7. If you have made the changes to your account name and these settings, then you are now ready to access the Internet and email.
